Avraham was born is 1920 in Aleppo in Syria where the family had lived for generations. Despite a long history of peace and cooperation between Jews and Muslims over hundreds of years, in 1947 Avraham was forced to flee Syria after the Aleppo Pogrom. He resettled in the Mandate of Palestine and was there as the State of Israel was born. Avraham eventually made his way from Israel to America to live close to his grandchildren.

Avraham’s younger brother David was not able to get out and was trapped in Syria until 1992 when, in the wake of the Madrid Conference, Jews were finally given permission to emigrate from Syria. David finally got a visa to leave for the USA in 1993 and joined the family in America. Avraham died in hospital 1995, his brother David by his side.
